• Teeth Whitening

  • Tooth enamel comes in different shades and there are many factors that determine a tooth’s color.  Some factors include age, genetics, tobacco use, medicines, fluoride exposure as a child, and injury.

There are many ways to make your smile whiter and brighter! Some can be done at home, while others are highly concentrated, in-office treatments.

    At-home

    • Toothpastes- the gentlest and least expensive option
    • Whitening strips- small flexible films preloaded with whitener that sit on your teeth for a certain amount of time
    • Whitening (or bleaching) trays- Custom fit trays made by your dental team that you fill with a concentrated whitening agent.

    In-Office

Sometimes dental stains require a stronger level of treatment than is available in-home. Dr. Lipe and his staff have extensive training in how to bring out the youthful glow of white, bright teeth.    Sometimes a special laser or light is used to activate or enhance the whitener’s properties.  To protect your gums from any damage, a special gel may be used so only the teeth are exposed to the whitener.

    Post-whitening Care

After your whitening procedure, avoid acidic or stain-causing food and drink for several hours. Carefully follow the instructions included in the packaging. Dr. Lipe will discuss the post-op procedures for in-office treatments and for home care following whitening with dental trays.  In some cases, your teeth and gums may be sensitive after a whitening session. To make the effects of your whitening last, limit stain-causing foods, drinks, and tobacco.
